No Country For Old Men Follow-up
The movie seems to have gotten pretty universal praise so I went to Rotten Tomatoes to share my opinion and someone there enlightened me to a new trend in literature where, so help me, description is more important than plot. There seems to be this mentality that you either like it or you don’t get it. It’s very self-supporting elitism - if you’re not with them you’re just unintelligent, uninformed, or lacking culture.
I would like to go on record as being against this new trend. Some of the worst books I’ve ever read valued description over plot and as far as I’m concerned no matter how masterfully you describe something it will never cover up the lack of a good, coherent, or complete idea.
