Charlie Wilson’s War Review
Fantastic.
What? You want more detail than that? Alright, if I must.
Tom Hanks, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, and Julia Roberts are all outstanding. While the film doesn’t provide a wide range of dramatic opportunities they are all stellar within the bounds of the film.
It’s hilarious, educational, philosophical, thought provoking, and has a strong and relevant message.
Republicans and Conservatives claim the film a propaganda piece claiming the Regan administration gave arms to Osama Bin Laden. Now had Osama, Regan, or even a Republican been referenced in the film there may have been merit to this but there isn’t.
It’s a story about an imperfect man trying to correct what he sees as an injustice, succeeding at first but left out in the cold when the time came to follow-up.
Alan Sorkin is if not at the top of his game then very close to it.
Hmmm, I suppose I should try to say something negative about the film…hmmm…well, I found the directing uninspired. Not bad or flawed, just uninspired.
So there you have it, now go see it.
I said now.
