The garbage strike is over. From the very beginning the city said they had contingency plans to deal with the extra garbage. When it was announced that up to 6 additional bags would be collected each week over the next 2 weeks at the expense of recycling pickup it seemed to make sense. So why then were the 6 perfectly tied and placed bags next to our bin not picked up this morning?

Looking down the alley I could see that no recycling had been picked up either. So we seem to have sacrificed recycling pickup this week for nothing. I can’t help but wonder why.

Was the announcement misreported? God knows misreporting has caused plenty of problems at my work. Did the city not actually have a plan? Did they have a plan but not run it by the union? Did so many workers find other employment that the plan couldn’t be carried out? Is the union continuing to be dicks? Or are specific workers in my area slacking off in protest of a dead issue?

I plan to get to the bottom of this.
