24 Pick Me Up

I was having one hell of a day a couple days ago. For what was at least the 4th day in a row I had only gotten 4 hours or less of sleep - that’s skirting the line of dementia and insanity. No seriously, I read a few years ago about how getting less than 4 hours sleep a night over an extended period can seriously impair cognitive function in qualitatively detectable ways.

So I felt like poop, exhausted poop. Poop on bad day. Until I stumbled upon the trailer for the new season of 24. It did nothing for my exhaustion but it punched my recent ennui in the face. With no new episodes or plot news of Star Trek, Doctor Who, or Torchwood and no vacation to plan for and Christmas still 2 months away and no release date for Conquest I had very little to look forward to.

Buying the Wii helped a bit but it was a distraction. What I needed was a hit of anticipation. I think I could be an anticipation junkie. I thought the only danger of this addiction was not living in the moment but no, there’s withdrawal. Dragon’s Den and The Sarah Jane Adventures, while entertaining, gave me very little specific and complex things to think about and look foreword to, they require little use of creativity or imagination to be a fan of.

I needed an exciting puzzle to ponder over.

Tony Almeida as the bad guy? Order filled!
