Is it a sign that I’m getting old or a harbinger of the decline of western civilization that I think a lot of currently ‘popular’ music is crap?
Take a couple songs currently in high rotation on The Beat…
(is there such a thing as low rotation on The Beat?)
There’s a song about someone’s management telling them to go to rehab for alcoholism and the person responding by firing their management team. Aren’t there enough barriers to facing addiction, does denial really need it’s own theme song?
There’s another song that suggests beautiful women make men suicidal. This clearly has a positive message of mental health for the teenage masses.
And of course the song about some girl’s booty…sung by the girl. Wow another song about how hot someone thinks they are, great addition to the cultural fabric.
Although when the radio station only plays 8 songs all day long can you really blame the masses? Do people even genuinely like any of these songs? Or have we all just been brainwashed to accept whatever’s offered? If someone repeatedly tells us a song is good despite our disagreement how long until the barriers of our identity break down into non-cognition?
My point? The Beat’s lying to you man, change the channel. I recommend Jack where they celebrate the spirit of the individual, not try to crush it.
Just look at the ads on The Beat: sex toys and restaurants with nothing on their menu that doesn’t have alcohol - surely this enriches our lives.
