Bill 29

Bill 29 was the act of the BC Liberals that allowed them to sacrifice THOUSANDS of health care provider jobs on the alter of privatization. The Supreme Court recently ruled that this Bill, which broke numerous collective agreements negotiated openly and freely agreed to by all sides, was illegal. The provincial Liberals had to be told that breaking contracts was illegal!

And their response? “Judicial Activism!” they cry. Right. Courts and judges upholding the law is ‘activism’? No, it’s doing your freaking job! I wonder what precisely the BC Liberals want courts to do when faced with something illegal? Well the provincial Liberal approach seems to be if it favours you embrace the crime and if it doesn’t throw the book at it and then claim stiffer penalties are needed.

Remember the other day when you asked me the definition of hypocrisy and I said “ARGH!“?

And guess what these theoretically activist judges did? They gave the BC Liberals a year to “do something about it“. Break the law, get a year to “something about it“? Are you freaking kidding me?

They got the lightest slap on the wrist possible (frankly I think they had to create a new increment of light just to cover this situation as we previously did not have a unit of measure small enough!) and they STILL cry foul. Were we stateside Jon Stewart would be all over this.

So how do you define “do something about it“? Well apparently to the provincial Liberals it means continue the illegal activity for a year and then stop and take no action to reverse your crimes. Predictions are another 650 health care providers will lose their jobs in that time. Again all in the name of privatization.

Hold on, I could have swore we were facing a nursing shortage? That’s sure as hell what I was told when the birth of my child was delayed 14 hours. They had the room, the doctors, the medication, but no nurses. The BC Liberals solution? Fire people. And not the people causing or failing to address the shortage, the people we’re short of.

Great. Do they also put fires out with gasoline and cure hunger with a diet?

Jesus. The dumbest person in the country knows there’s a national health care problem, why don’t our leaders?

And privatization, wow. How distinctly un-Canadian. Ask any Canadian what makes us different from Americans and you can bet health care will make the list. And privatization has worked so well for the Americans, none of them are complaining. That’s what Michael Moore’s new film Sicko universally positively reviewed even by Fox ‘news’ is about, right? How everything is great in the states’ health care system?

No? Hmmm, how could I have gotten that wrong?

But surely the best health care programs in the world in Europe and Cuba are products of the free market?

No? Huh. Looks like we’re screwed then.

Our physical health, laws, and national identity are being attacked by the BC Liberals. Tell me, how far must they go before we DO SOMETHING?

Maybe if they break other laws? Oh wait, they have.

Restrict access to information? They did that too?

Drunk driving then? Damn.

How about purchasing sex toys with taxpayer money? Did that.

Drown a puppy? Anyone? No? Okay so they haven’t done that…as far as we know.

Seriously, they are running out of crimes to commit. And an electorate that seems asleep at the wheel only emboldens them to find new ways of ruining the province.
